Remote working may feel like a dream: you’re suddenly given this amazing freedom and extra time. You get to work from the comfort of your own home.
Working From Home In A Rowdy Environment
Although, this is where many problems can begin. You didn’t expect your busy household to impact your work and mood so much. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to work around. Here are some strategies to help you work from home effectively.
OUR Remote Working Tips
1. Speak with family, friends and even neighbours who may be disrupting you. They may be excited to have you so close to them that they don’t realise it’s affecting your work.
2. Communicate when you will be working and even have a ‘do not disturb’ sign on your door so family members know not to walk in unannounced. It may even be worth investing in one for your front door as cold callers are prone to interrupting your thinking.
3. Invest in your own private space for working. You can’t take your laptop into the living room and expect everyone to tiptoe around you; be respectful and realistic. Perhaps you could convert an empty room or even use the bedroom as a work station for in the day.
4. There are some things you can’t control, so for times like that, invest in some noise-cancelling earphones.
Plan around busy households
Be proactive rather than stressing about working remotely in a busy household. Keep in mind the things you're avoiding by working from home. Although there are plenty of busy households out there, there are also a handful of chaotic working environments. Consider lunch costs, traffic jams, personal appointments, and childcare as solid reasoning behind your decision.
Although it may seem like you made a bad choice at times, you're more than likely a lot better off. We'd love to hear some of your personal stories regarding working from home!
