Getaways for Mom

Getaways for Mom

Mother's day will be here before you know it! Usually we think of flowers and brunches and time spent with that special mom. So if you’re looking for something a bit different this year, and one you can share together...

Here are some getaways for mom to plan:

  •      A spa weekend (or even just the day)

  •      A wine country or Vineyard tour

  • Getaway from Home in your Hometown

  •      Get back to nature

  •       City Lights

Spa Day

Spa day may be just the trick, or if budget allows, a spa weekend.  For a spa day, target a hotel and spa nearby. The benefit of hotel spas is usually not only do you get pampered at the spa; you can usually use the facilities at the hotel and have a relaxing lunch by the pool and enjoy the sunset. Many hotels offer “local” discounts so call around to some of the luxury hotels in your area. You may be pleasantly surprised! If you are up to a weekend spa getaway, there are many locations to choose from all depending on your location and budget.  Here are Travel & Leisure’s top spa getaway resorts.

Wine Country Tour

If Mom enjoys her glass of wine in the evening, a wine country trip could be just the escape. Many wine tours can be booked for the day and include the tasting and a light meal. However, depending on your location to the closest vineyard, you may want to plan for a weekend trip, or longer. Try one of the top vineyards in the country  If traveling is not an option,  perhaps a wine bar and tapas would be a perfect fit.

Getaway from Home

Sometimes traveling out of town just isn't realistic, but you still want to give mom a getaway from home. Try a five star hotel in your home town and look for amenities she will enjoy. Maybe a pool, spa, or beach resort. Or with entertainment or theaters nearby. Just being away from the norm for a day or two can do wonders for peace of mind. As an added treat, arrange to have flowers and perhaps a special treat in the room prior to her arrival.

Nature Trip

If Mom loves nature and all if has to offer, consider planning a trip to the Grand Canyon, or maybe a spring trip to the mountains of Colorado. Depending on how adventurous she is, you can whitewater raft on the river, windsurf in the Caribbean, or if you want to tame things down a bit, rent a cabin in Lake Tahoe and enjoy the wondrous views. If staying home is your option, pack a basket lunch with all her favorites, rent bikes, and peddle around a park or lake and then settle down for an afternoon picnic.

The City

If City lights and entertainment are what comes to mind when you think of mom, maybe a city trip and all the excitement is has to offer will be the ticket. From Las Vegas, to New York City, Miami Beach to L.A. or San Diego to Chicago, plan a show, a dinner on a rooftop, and maybe even a shopping day together. Want to make her a city night but need to be close to home, start the day off by going to the mall together and choosing an outfit for the evening. Next stop the salon for hair and nails and makeup. Then have dinner reservations set at a restaurant with her favorite cuisine. To finish the city evening off, by taking her to acomedy club or other show she may enjoy.

Many great deals can be found on Groupon and Living Social, and be sure to always check reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor.

At the end of the day, what matters the most is the quality time you spend together and the memories you will make. So planning the perfect trip or even just for the day can be exciting and something you’ll look back on in the years to come.
